Various magazines and tabloids have reported that Taylor Swift will play Joni Mitchell, a Canadian folk singer, in the upcoming film adaption of Sheila Weller’s book Girls Like Us. Despite the amount of press Taylor has been getting for allegedly accepting this role, no one from Taylor Swift’s management has confirmed or denied these rumors, until now.
Yesterday, Taylor spoke to Country Weekly regarding the film:
I’m not confirmed, actually. I’m not actually signed on to do a movie at this point. You never want to talk about something like that until it is a definite thing. I would love to tell that story. It would be amazing. It would be an interesting, fascinating, incredibly intelligent and wonderful character to play, but nothing is confirmed right now.
Although Taylor has no objection to acting, as she’s starred in films before, such as Valentine’s Day and The Lorax, she has admitted that if she were to do a film, she would need the time to properly devote herself to it. Taylor told MTV in March 2012, “I would want to have the time, the ability and the love for something, the love for a character to where I could really make that commitment to it.”
With her new album Red coming up and a tour (most likely) to follow in 2013, it’s unlikely that Taylor will have time to commit to a movie role anytime soon. Still though, if Taylor is officially cast for Joni Mitchell, she would certainly do an amazing job. After all, she does bare an uncanny resemblance to the Canadian artist!
